COURSE DESCRIPTION

Students will learn basic techniques for digital drawing, coloring, compositing and image manipulation for print and digital delivery systems.

COURSE OUTCOMES
The student will be able to:

1. Recognize digital media’s impact on various media production, and distribution systems and associated copyright issues.
2. Recognize the applications of vector and bitmap digital imaging for their major area of study.
3. Calibrate monitors for print and digital output; understand software color management settings and image resolution for print and digital media delivery systems.
4. Have a plan and execute backing up data into workflow.
5. Integrate and manipulate type, using Illustrator, as an artistic and/or illustrative component in an iconographic artwork, using tools such as live trace, for web output.
6. Create the illusion of space, using Illustrator, by manipulating color space and perspective, then prepare and proof the image for high quality printed output.
7. Prepare using Photoshop, scanned or photographed traditional media images with correct resolution and sharpness to match the original, for web output.
8. Manipulate multiple images, using Photoshop compositing techniques, to create a digital collage, then prepare and proof the image for high quality printed output.
9. Manipulate images using Photoshop filters and/or other effects (such as texture overlay and layer effects) to reinforce a visual concept, then prepare and proof the image for high quality printed output.
10. Discuss, debate, and ideate digital imaging works for the purpose of advancing projects in progress, and critiquing finished projects as a member of a review group.
