ROOM: 408
TIME: 3:30-6:20
OFFICE: 711

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Students will learn basic techniques for digital drawing, coloring, compositing and image manipulation for print and digital delivery systems.

COURSE OUTCOMES
The student will be able to:

1. Recognize digital media’s impact on various media production, and distribution systems and associated copyright issues.
2. Recognize the applications of vector and bitmap digital imaging for their major area of study.
3. Calibrate monitors for print and digital output; understand software color management settings and image resolution for print and digital media delivery systems.
4. Have a plan and execute backing up data into workflow.
5. Integrate and manipulate type, using Illustrator, as an artistic and/or illustrative component in an iconographic artwork, using tools such as live trace, for web output.
6. Create the illusion of space, using Illustrator, by manipulating color space and perspective, then prepare and proof the image for high quality printed output.
7. Prepare using Photoshop, scanned or photographed traditional media images with correct resolution and sharpness to match the original, for web output.
8. Manipulate multiple images, using Photoshop compositing techniques, to create a digital collage, then prepare and proof the image for high quality printed output.
9. Manipulate images using Photoshop filters and/or other effects (such as texture overlay and layer effects) to reinforce a visual concept, then prepare and proof the image for high quality printed output.
10. Discuss, debate, and ideate digital imaging works for the purpose of advancing projects in progress, and critiquing finished projects as a member of a review group.

INTERNET ACCESS:
You may use the internet for assignment research only during class.

IN CLASS:
Instructor will perform demonstratins on using the computer software. You will work on assignments during class and obtain individualized instruction.

CLASS CRITIQUES:
We will have a group critique for every project. You are expected to participate fully in every critique. Skipping critiques will negatively affect your grade. Missing a deadline for a project will equal an F for that project.

OUTSIDE OF CLASS:
You will be performing research and gathering information for your assignments. You be expected to put in extra time completing or reworking some assignments.

ATTENDANCE:

• More than 3 unexcused absences will negatively effect your grade.
• Each absence beyond 3 will continue to negatively effect your grade.
• Arriving to class late and/or leaving early will also lower your grade.
• Arriving to class late and/or leaving early 3 times will equal one absence.

GRADING WILL BE BASED ON:
• Effective understanding of technical and conceptual demos.
• Timeliness and presentation.
• Quality of project definition, project planning, project proposal and project execution.
• Participation in the class ideation and critiques.
• Missing a deadline will equal an F for that project.

I do not grade per project but give one, final grade at the end of the semester.
